Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has transferred **₹10,000 directly into the bank accounts of 2.5 million women under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana a state programme designed to promote women’s economic empowerment and self-employment. The disbursement was made through direct benefit transfer (DBT) from the Chief Minister’s office in Patna, benefiting a large segment of women across the state.
In total, the chief minister disbursed around ₹2,500 crore in this tranche, covering 25 lakh beneficiaries who received ₹10,000 each to support livelihood activities. The scheme was inaugurated in September 2025 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and aims to provide women with seed capital to start their own business or income-generating ventures.
So far, about 1.81 crore women have received this initial support under the programme, and those who successfully establish self-employment with the ₹10,000 are slated to receive additional financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakh in the future, helping them expand or scale their ventures.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to boost women’s participation in the workforce, strengthen rural and urban livelihoods and deepen economic inclusion through targeted government support.
