The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has launched a strategic two-day sensitization program aimed at transforming local women-led businesses into global export competitors. The initiative seeks to strengthen Jigawa’s economy by moving women entrepreneurs into the international trade arena.
Abdulkadir Aliyu, the NEPC Coordinating Officer for Jigawa, outlined three core objectives for the exercise:
- Capacity Building: Training business owners on the intricacies of international export opportunities.
- Strategic Support: Linking entrepreneurs with trade networks, financial resources, and business support services.
- Increased Participation: Encouraging women to lead in value-added exports and digital trade.
Digitalizing for Global Penetration
A key highlight of the program is the partnership with ImpactHer, a development organization focused on the digital evolution of female-led commerce.
Hauwa Isa, a volunteer for ImpactHer, explained that the organization is providing 30 women with hands-on support to digitalize their business operations. By mastering digital marketing skills, these entrepreneurs can bypass traditional barriers and reach customers worldwide. To drive excellence, ImpactHer has announced a $500 grant for two participants who demonstrate the highest commitment to scaling their businesses globally.
Community and Institutional Backing
The initiative has received high praise from local leadership. Murkhtar Birniwa, President of the Jigawa Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, reaffirmed the Chamber’s dedication to building the capacity of the state’s businesswomen.
Participants have already begun pledging to share their new knowledge. We will cascade these skills to other women entrepreneurs in our communities,” said participant Hauwa Umar, signaling a potential multiplier effect for the state’s economic growth.
