Madhya Pradesh to Introduce “SUMAN SAKHI” Chatbot for Women’s Health Support
Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: To improve access to health-related information and services for women, the Madhya Pradesh government is preparing to roll out an AI-powered digital assistant called SUMAN SAKHI. The initiative is being carried out under the National Health Mission with technical support from the Madhya Pradesh State Electronics Development Corporation.
What the Chatbot Will Do
Available round the clock on WhatsApp, SUMAN SAKHI will serve as a virtual guide for women, particularly focusing on maternal and reproductive health. It will provide answers to common queries around pregnancy, government health schemes, and related topics.
To ensure wider accessibility, the chatbot will primarily function in Hindi, making it easier for women in both rural and urban areas to use the service. While not a substitute for medical professionals, the tool is designed to connect women with reliable information and direct them toward available healthcare services.
Why It Matters
- Improved Reach: The chatbot has the potential to bridge the gap for women living in remote or underserved regions, where access to doctors, clinics, or updated health information is often limited.
- Empowering Women: By offering reliable information at their fingertips, the initiative aims to strengthen women’s confidence in making informed health decisions.
- Challenges Ahead: The effectiveness of SUMAN SAKHI will depend on its ability to understand diverse user inputs, manage local dialects, and seamlessly guide users who need in-person medical support. Digital literacy, internet access, and trust in new technology will also influence its success.
Final Thoughts
The launch of SUMAN SAKHI marks a forward-looking step for Madhya Pradesh, blending technology with healthcare delivery. By placing critical health information directly in the hands of women, the state is setting an example of how digital innovation can promote both health equity and women’s empowerment.
