Speaking at the Rajasthan Digifest and TiE Global Summit on Monday, former Union Minister Smriti Irani emphasized that empowering women-led micro-enterprises is no longer just a social goal, but a critical economic necessity.
During her session, “Leadership Beyond Labels: Women, Power & Public Service,” Irani urged women to dismantle self-imposed boundaries and embrace risk-taking, regardless of their current success level.
The “SPARK” Initiative
Irani highlighted her initiative, SPARK, which is designed to bridge the gap for female founders. Key goals include:
- Scale: Supporting 100,000 women entrepreneurs across 300 cities.
- Resources: Providing essential access to credit and institutional support.
- Formalization: Helping informal businesses transition into the formal economy.
A Massive Vision for MSMEs
The summit’s second day also marked the launch of a global campaign to position Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as the primary engines of the economy. TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) outlined an ambitious five-year roadmap:
| Metric | Target Goal |
| Job Creation | 1 Crore (10 million) new jobs |
| Economic Value | Over $100 Billion |
| Timeline | 5 Years |
To achieve this, TiE plans to mobilize global capital and governments to focus on regulatory simplification, technology adoption, and skill development.
Regional Partnerships & Global Hubs
The summit served as a platform for high-level policy discussions and international collaboration:
- State Collaboration: Officials from Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh discussed streamlining GST compliance and cluster-based development.
- New Agreements: The Andhra Pradesh government signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with TiE Hyderabad and TiE Visakhapatnam to bolster local ecosystems.
- Global Gateway: A dedicated session on “Cities of the Future” explored how Dubai Internet City has become a vital launchpad for Indian startups looking to scale internationally through AI-driven infrastructure and cross-border collaboration.
