A new NeoGrowth NeoInsights study—titled The Entrepreneurial Spirit of Women Business Owners in India—surveyed over 3,000 women business owners and uncovered key motivations and impacts of women-led ventures.
Key Highlights
- 70% of women entrepreneurs began their ventures out of self-motivation and aspiration, not due to financial necessity. About 66% cited career experience and ambition as their primary motivators, while only 22% started businesses out of economic urgency.
- An overwhelming 98% reported that their businesses had a positive impact on their families, personal well-being, and communities.
- Enhancements in quality of life and self-reliance were widely reported: 61% experienced an improved standard of living for their families, and 54% noted increased confidence and financial independence.
Social Impact & Leadership
- 90% of respondents cited greater societal respect and acceptance, especially in cities like Kolkata (96%), Hyderabad (94%), and Ahmedabad (90%), where support for women-led businesses is particularly strong.
- The entrepreneurial drive is spreading: 67% of women entrepreneurs have inspired others toward financial independence, 50% encouraged employees to start ventures, and 47% motivated girls to pursue education.
Independent Ownership & Financial Discipline
- A striking 81% of women business owners manage their businesses independently, with minimal reliance on family or spousal assistance.
- Financial discipline is a hallmark of their success: 93% regularly manage their finances—through timely EMIs, prudent decision-making, and maintaining strong credit scores.
