Chinese President Xi Jinping issued a renewed call for women’s greater participation in governance while addressing a high-level global women’s summit held in Beijing. Speaking to international delegates and leaders from over 60 countries, Xi emphasized that gender equality must be “deeply rooted in all levels of society”, particularly in political decision-making and public administration.
The summit, hosted in collaboration with UN Women, focused on expanding leadership opportunities for women in politics, diplomacy, and public institutions. Xi noted that empowering women in senior governance roles is not only a social responsibility, but also a strategic necessity for global development.
International attendees—including ministers, policymakers, and representatives from multilateral organizations—pledged to enhance women’s representation in government systems, support gender-sensitive policies, and foster leadership mentorship programs.
This announcement comes amid growing global advocacy for parity in decision-making roles and increased accountability on issues such as pay equity, parliamentary participation, and leadership diversity.
