The Bihar government is working on preparing the detailed modalities to provide up to ₹2 lakh in additional financial assistance to women who have already started small businesses under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana (MMRY). This follows the initial seed grant of ₹10,000 given to help women launch livelihood ventures in areas like tailoring, food processing, handicrafts, animal husbandry and retail activities.
So far, around 1.56 crore women across 38 districts have received the first tranche of ₹10,000 under the programme, with a total of approximately ₹15,600 crore disbursed so far through the state’s rural livelihoods network, Jeevika.
The Rural Development Department, which oversees MMRY implementation through Jeevika’s self-help groups, is now drafting the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the second phase of funding. Once finalised and approved by the state cabinet, women whose entrepreneurial efforts show promise will be eligible to receive phased additional funding — up to ₹2 lakh — based on an evaluation of their business viability.
Officials said committees at block, district and state levels will be set up to assess business plans and oversee disbursements. The expanded assistance aims to help women scale their ventures, with support also expected in areas such as training, marketing and business development to ensure sustained growth.
The MMRY was launched jointly by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in September 2025, targeting women’s economic independence by backing self-employment activities.
