President Droupadi Murmu has highlighted the importance of building an inclusive and responsible financial technology (fintech) ecosystem in India as the country’s digital infrastructure continues to grow rapidly. She made these remarks while addressing the Black Swan Summit in Bhubaneswar, where the focus was on innovation, technology and digital finance.

Murmu said that fintech should do more than introduce new technology — it should help empower people across society, especially women entrepreneurs and underserved communities. She pointed out that digital finance platforms like digital payments and direct benefit transfers have become a lifeline for small merchants, farmers and women, making financial services easier and more accessible.

While praising the progress of India’s digital public infrastructure, the President also warned that rapid digitisation brings challenges such as cyber threats, online fraud, misinformation and digital exclusion for those without adequate skills. To ensure fintech benefits everyone, Murmu stressed the need for ethical use of technology, stronger digital literacy and safeguards against misuse.

She also urged innovators and businesses to design citizen-centric fintech solutions that promote transparency, protect users, and uphold social justice and dignity. In her view, technology should expand opportunity — not deepen divides — in India’s growing digital economy.

The address reflects a broader government emphasis on using fintech not just for growth, but also for equitable access, inclusion and economic participation for all sections of Indian society.
